A space to listen.

About

Sona is a dedicated listening space in the heart of Mexico City, designed and engineered for the appreciation of recorded music and sound.

Founded by a group of friends, we believe that when we truly pay attention to music, it grounds us and brings us together.

The Concept

Drawing inspiration from Japan's 1920s jazz kissas (ジャズ喫茶)—venues dedicated to the playback of vinyl on high-end equipment—and the sonic theories of Pauline Oliveros, we view listening not as background noise, but as an active experience.

We wanted to build a place where you can listen with a sense of wonder—as if you were hearing for the very first time.

Here, sound is experienced with the same reverence and critical attention one would bring to a cinema or an art gallery.

Unlike social listening bars, Sona minimizes conversation to maximize clarity. Unlike wellness centers, our goal is not relaxation, but intense sensory engagement.

Space

The Listening Space

To truly listen, you need the right environment.

Our Listening Space is acoustically treated and free from screens, designed to let the sound feel natural and immersive.

To protect this experience, we have a simple rule: no phones and no conversation inside the room.

This ensures that you—and everyone around you—can get lost in the music without distraction.

Soundsystem(s)

The listening experience is powered by two world-class, distinct audio architectures:

  • The Immersive: A calibrated Dolby Atmos array co-designed with Genelec, delivering state-of-the-art spatial audio and precise imaging.
  • The Analog: A custom stereo system by OJAS, loved for its warm texture and lifelike, natural tone.

From digital spatial audio to classic analog vinyl, these systems allow us to share a wide range of music exactly as it was meant to be heard.

Oda

Throughout the space, Sona hosts a permanent sculptural sound installation that serves as portals to distant natural environments.

Based in New York, Oda handcrafts each piece from sustainable materials. The installation stream live audio from the Macaw Sanctuary, creating authentic connections to the natural world.

Monolith

Tea

We view tea as a way to sharpen the senses.

Used for centuries to combat fatigue during long sessions, tea provides a calm, focused energy.

We serve a curated menu of high-quality teas, sourced from Japan and prepared with care to aid the listening experience.

Collaborations

Sona is a community.

We collaborate with record labels, music brands, audio engineers, artists, and organizations operating at the intersection of acoustics, technology, music culture, ecology and design.
