Pareidolia - Eiko Ishibashi & Jim O'Rourke

Banda Aparte is a new section of FICUNAM 16, part of Umbral Expandido, and a collaboration between the festival and sona. Six deep listening sessions dedicated to soundtrack music, scores, and studio albums, listened to in full and in order. The music stands alone, without screenings or live performances, giving sound the place it normally yields to the image.

We play digital audio of the highest quality through our analog system: tube amplifiers and OJAS KO-R1 speakers. Designed by Devon Turnbull, the KO-R1 creates hyper-realistic and detailed, warm and natural soundscapes.

They generate absolute presence in the sound.

In our space designed for deep listening, you will discover hidden details, textures, and movements impossible to feel in headphones.

For two weeks in 2023, Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O’Rourke performed together outside Japan for the first time, in France, Switzerland, Italy, and Ireland. At each concert, they recorded what they played and used it as material for the next performance. This album is a final reorganization of it all: moments from different cities, layered and brought together again in four electroacoustic pieces, with flute and harmonica among the layers of sound. Pareidolia is seeing shapes where there are none, and here the invitation is to let the ear find its own.

FICUNAM is a space dedicated to exploring and showcasing contemporary cinema, both national and international. Through a program that champions new ways of seeing, narrating, and experimenting, the festival fosters encounters between filmmakers and audiences, supports the education of new generations, and opens up conversations about the present and future of cinema.

no talk: we keep the soundroom silent so everyone can focus on the music.

no late entry: once the soundroom doors close (20 minutes after the booking time), we cannot let anyone in.
